Playin' Opossum

Hey Guys! It's been kind of a strange week here at AP. The kitchen project is truckin' along, we just have the top cabinets to finish up and the backsplash.  There aren't a whole lot of pictures to show you because I want to save them for the reveal, so I thought I'd share a little story about a furry creature and a link to one of my favorite posts in the past.
Ok, so on to this weeks oddity. Thursday night I am heading home from work and I get a frantic call from my daughter. She told me that our dogs found a baby opossum and attacked it. She got it away from them and was nursing his wounds.  Now, anyone that knows me, knows that I am a complete sucker for animals. In fact, I think animals are better than a lot of humans.  If you've seen past posts. you've seen the menagerie of hairballs that live in our house.  They outnumber us humans!  They are a very big part of our family.   Anyway, my mind is racing on the way home: How on earth do I help a opossum, is it going to live, will I have to take it to the vet to be put down. Oh the awful possibilities!!  I was feeling fairly queasy by the time I pulled in to the driveway. The thought of living with a wounded opossum wouldn't have freaked me out so much if I knew how to take care of one, ha!

I know he looks a little worse for wear in this pic, but I figure if a creature 10 times my size stomped on me and covered me in slobber, I'd probably look a bit haggard myself!
We  really tried to limit our contact to caring for his wounds and changing out his bedding and water.  Not once did he make a move to bite or hiss at us. I think he was just relieved to be safe. I didn't realize they have opposable thumbs. When we picked him up, he would hang on with his little hands and wrap his tail around our fingers. It was so cute.
Thankfully, we have a friend who has raised them in the past. We managed to keep the little guy alive for a couple of days until he could take over caring for him. I am very happy to say that I think he's going to be just fine.  Hubs named him Macaroni. Don't ask. :-)
Alright, enough opossum talk. On to the furniture stuff. I am sharing a link to an oldie, but goodie! This is one of my favorite pieces.  I hope you'll take a gander!

Awww. I know nothing about opossums but I know I wouldn't have the guts to take care of it. It is very sweet of you guys (I count the daughter too) for braving it out and for being so caring.
Super sweet. :)

ps. that hatch turned GORGEOUS! Love the aqua details.

Macaroni is the cutest and I am so pleased you rescued him. My opinion of animals is much the same as yours. Thanks for linking up to #2UsesTuesday and I can recommend #animaltales as a great place for you to link this up to aswell.
